New Little Lake Elementary Principal

Little Lake Elementary welcomed a new Principal at the beginning of the school year, Mr. Robert Broecker. Mr. Broecker has worked in education for over 30 years, and is entering his tenth year as a Principal.

Mr. Broecker began his time in education wanting to be an interpreter, but after spending time as a French teacher, he realized that his passion was teaching. He taught French to high school students for three years and then was given the opportunity to teach French to fourth grade students in the French Immersion program. Throughout his career, Broecker held various positions, but his goal of helping students remained constant.

During his first year as Principal of Little Lake, Broecker said he will be working with students, families, and staff members to gain a better understanding of what the needs are and working together to build a joint vision that reflects the needs of the school community. He is working to identify which programs families and students find valuable and which programs may need to be updated to reflect the needs of students. He said during this process, the feedback from staff has been extremely valuable. During discussions with staff, he is asking staff four critical questions: what do we want students to know? how do we know students understand? what do we do if students do not understand? and, what do we do if students already know what we are teaching?

Broecker said he has been impressed with the shared understanding of providing a positive educational experience for students. “I am so proud of this veteran staff. They are all very engaged and provide a large repertoire of curriculum approaches, which helps during Collaboration Wednesdays,” said Broecker. He added how thankful he has been that the staff and families have been so welcoming to him during his transition.

Welcome to the HUSD team, Mr. Broecker. We look forward to all of the great things we know you will bring to Little Lake Elementary School!
